The psychological and health effects of fasting
Fasting or Sawm, is a moral and spiritual Islamic property unique. His virtues and his merits are unlimited. The main reason behind the young is the noble goal At-Taqwa(piety).
Allah, exalted is he, says (meaning of the verse):
Fasting helps the faithful to develop a strong personality. It instills in people the noble quality of power, desire and determination. When we fast, we certainly learn how to control the desires and passions and place themselves above the physical temptations.
It also helps to develop the virtue of affection towards the poor and the destitute; When one observes fasting and it undergoes the test of hunger, is remembered actually status and the plight of the poor.
The young reminds those who observes it the favor of Allah when they feel hunger and thirst by fasting;This recall encourages them to thank him more for his generosity without limit.
Young also develops the precious quality of patience and cultivates a sweet and patient nature.Fasting in Islam equals half of the reward of patience as a reward, and patience in turn is equivalent to half of the faith. The Prophet says: « Ramadan is the month of patience and endurance. . »
Fasting is also a shield against many diseases. It provides us with a spiritual nobility and physical training. It provides the body, because it is a cure to many diseases known. It helps to relax the digestive system and helps the body to get rid of harmful pollutants.
In addition to all the above advantages, it is also an act of worship that attests to the total submission and obedience to Allah. The event endured during the fulfilment of this obligation is insignificant compared to the noble objective that we seek to achieve, namely, the pleasure of Allah and the great rewards in the afterlife.
Part of the obligation related to fasting in Islam is that besides abstention from eating, drinking and intercourse during the hours of fasting, the Muslim must make special efforts to reach higher levels of virtue and purity. A lesson that fasting teaches us is that the person who refrains from the use of the eligible things while fasting, must certainly move away of everything that is forbidden.
Indeed, the month of Ramadan is comparable to a teacher who teaches the virtue and piety. When the Muslim fasting, it shall refrain not only from food, drink and lawful sexual intercourse, but also he tries, to the best of ability, to get away from all the bad actions that could invalidate his fast. The Prophet says:
«If one of you fasting, should not use obscene language or behave with madness and wanton; and if someone argues with him, he should say: I am young! I'm young! " " (Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
« Anyone who do not refrain lyrics and misleading actions [by fasting], Allaah has no need of his abstinence of its food and drink »
« Believers! "And if you are on a journey and cannot find a scribe, then a security deposit [should be] taken. And if one of you entrusts another, then let him who is entrusted discharge his trust [faithfully] and let him fear Allah, his Lord. And do not conceal testimony, for whoever conceals it - his heart is indeed sinful, and Allah is Knowing of what you do. » (Quran: 2/183)
