Pious women and qiyaam al-layl

Night prayers are a worship which connects hearts to Allah the most high and makes them able to defeat the waswaas of perishable life and fight against carnal souls at a time where the voices settle, eyes close and sleepers are turning in their beds.

Night prayers are a parameter which allows to measure the sincerity of the determination and "detect" the hallmarks of great souls. Allah has made homage to the Priors of night and them was distinguished from the others in these terms (meaning of the verse): "is what keeps the remaining hours of the night, in devotion, prostrate and standing, taking to the beyond and hoping the mercy of his Lord...". Say: "are - they equal, those who know and those who do not know?" "Only the men of understanding remember.(Quran: 39/9)

Women of the salaf were striving in turn to practice al-layl fiercely. What is the situation of women today compared to these great actions?

Urwa Ibn Zubayr said: "I went a day with Aisha (radhi Allahu ' Anha) to greet and I found it in prayer reciting the 1er verses of Sura 52.» She repeated these verses and was crying. I waited, but, tired of waiting, I went to the market for a case. And then I went back and found Aisha as I had left him. She always repeated the same verses in his prayer and crying.

According to the hadeeth of Anas Ibn Maalik (radhi Allahu ' Wasrafhu), the Prophet (sall Allahu ' Adegoroye wa Salam) said: "Gabriel said to me:"rebuke Hafsa because it fast much and did a lot of night prayers.". (Narrated by al-Haakim and Saheeh al-jaami ').

MU'adha al-Adwiyya, a pious woman of the generation that succeeded the companions, began to pray in the company of her husband, Sila Ibn Ashyam, the night of their wedding until dawn. When her husband and son were killed in the holy war, she began to spend the night to pray, to engage in acts of worship as a token expression of humility (with respect to Allah). She slept the day. When he sometimes doze during his long nocturnal prayers, she said: o my soul, sleep is before you. »

Habiba al-Adwiyya was used, after the Al-Isha prayer, to mount on the roof of his house, after having secured his clothes, and said: "my Lord, the stars have disappeared, eyes asleep and the closed doors of the Kings. Only your gate remains open. Every lover withdrew with his beloved. Here I am before you. And then she began to pray and speak with his master until dawn. The arrival of dawn, she said: "my Lord, this is the night that ends. This is the day that points. If only I could know if my night has been approved by you because then I welcome me or dismissed because then I would seek to comfort me. »

Amra, the wife of Habib Al-Abdullgadir, began nightly to pray while her husband slept. As she realized that her husband continued to sleep despite the approach of dawn, she awoke and told him: "Sir, night is withdrawn and the day arrived at high speed and you have before you a long way to go and a very skinny viaticum. Processions of pious people have gone before us and we still remain on the spot."
