Jesus of Nazareth

Jesus of Nazareth

The life of Jesus is known thanks to the Gospels, which present as a Messiah Pacific, away from antirromana and violent language from the time in which he lived.

Jesus and his preaching

The message of Jesus broke with both the strict point of view of compliance with the Torah, who defended the Pharisees, as well as the role of utmost importance that the Sadducees outorgavam to the temple. Either fit the strict ways of life of the Essenes.
He presents himself as a spiritual teacher and preacher who, after having overcome a series of ascetic evidence, became an increasingly popular character and won a large number of followers – among which stood out 12 close friends, called "Apostles", the Greek word that means "sent".

After preaching throughout Galilee, Jesus entered Jerusalem in 30 year to celebrate the feast of Easter with his followers. There, in the city that was the center of Jewish religious life, his presence and that preached Jewish authorities and confronted those who obeyed them.
On the eve of Easter, Jesus celebrated a supper with the Apostles. This celebration became the Foundation on which is based the Christian sacrament of the Eucharist, which continued to be realized in early Christianity and follows as the central ritual of the Christian mass to this day: the communion.

The Apostles

The Apostles were 12, as the tribes of Israel. Their names appear in the Gospels in different places, as in the following text of the Gospel of Matthew (10, 2-4):
The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, to what they call Peter and his brother Andrew; Santiago, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew, and Matthew, the Bundler; James, son of Alphaeus, Thaddeus, Simon and Judas, called the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, was what turned him in.
Very similar if recounts this episode in Mark 3, 1 3-19 and Luke 6, 1-2 16 . The great similarity between the three fragments can be explained as a consequence of the three Synoptic gospels drink from a common source before.

The death of Jesus

Betrayed by Judas Iscariot, one of the Apostles, Jesus ' Hi taken prisoner by guards of the high priest and taken to the Jewish religious Council, the Sanhedrin. Was found guilty of blasphemy and handed over to the Roman authorities for it to be applied to shame: and death. Then, the Roman Governor of Judea, Pontius Pilate, in view of the request of the Jewish authorities, condemned Jesus to death by crucifixion.
The followers of Jesus stated that he was resurrected on the third day of his death and that he was the Messiah with which conform the prophecies. The 11 Apostles said that he appeared and ordered to preach their message to the world.

The death of Jesus

By focusing on that Jesus was the Messiah and that he had "risen, Christians were separating Jewish tradition gradually over the next several decades. In addition, after the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in the year 70 c.e., the Jewish religion was becoming less and less varied, tending to the Pharisaic and rabbinic interpretations. Christians ended up creating a distinct and new religion.
