The attitude of our pious predecessors towards the quran

It is revealing to see how our pious ancestors understood the importance, the value of the Quran and its regular reading. It was quite normal and usual to read the Quran every month or every two months, some play after five or six days. These companions were seeking closeness to God because the Prophet (()) said:

« Allah has reconciled individuals him among men. They said: who are, oh Messenger of God?"He replied: the people of the Qur'an (who learn it and recite it) are the close of Allah . (Nassa'i and ibn Majeh)

Of course their piety is no common measure comparable to ours, but this still leaves us thinking about our ignorance on meritorious acts and neglect our duty to spiritual education.

' Uthman Ibn ' Affan was used to complete the recitation of the Koran every day. Some Salafiended the recitation of the Quran in prayer all three nights. Others finished it seven-night while others still completing all ten nights. They recited the Koran in their prayers and at other times. During the month of Ramadan, Ash-Shafi'i strove to complete the recitation of the Qur'aan sixty times, outside the hours of prayer. Al-Aswad was used to complete the recitation of the Quran every two nights. Qatada was completing the reading of the Qur'an in seven nights at the normal time, and during Ramadan, all three nights. but in the last ten days of Ramadan, he was completing it each night. When came the Ramadan, Az-Zuhri approach the study of the Hadith and studies with the learned circles, and it focused on reading the Qur'aan from the Mushaf (i.e., not memory). Also, when came the Ramadan, Sufyan Al-Thawri deserted all acts of worship and focused only on reading the Quran.
Ibn Rajab said reported that the Prophet () has forbidden to finish reading the Quran in less than three days for those who recite it continually. As blessed as the Ramadan, especially during times the nights where we hope to meet the night ofAl-Qadr or as Makkah holy places for those who do not reside there it is recommended to multiply the recitation of the Koran to enjoy the blessings of time and place. This is the view of Ahmad, Ishaq and others among noble scholars. As noted above, the actions of other scientists also support this opinion.
Crying during the recitation of the Qur'an
The attitude of the Salaf was not recite the Quran and poetry without ponder it, or understand it. rather, they were affected by the word of Allah, and in turn, they touched the hearts of others. In a hadith narrated by Al-Bukhari, 'Abdullah Ibn Mas' ûd (may Allah be satisfied with him) said: "the Messenger of Allah () said: « recited me (the Quran). » I told him then: "How can I then recite te that it is yours it was revealed?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah upon him) said: « I like listening to someone else. . « » 'Abdullah Ibn Mas' ud says: "I recited the Qur'an from surah An-Nissa' until verse ' How will be, when we do come from every nation a witness and we will make you come (Muhammad) as a witness against these people above? » [Women, 41]. The Prophet () said: « that enough. . «« » I turned towards him () and I saw tears flow from his eyes. »
Al-Bayhaqi reports from Abu Hurayra that the Prophet () said: "when the verse of the Koran"what! You amazed this speech (the Qur'an)? And you to laugh and not weep point. » [Star, 59.60] revealed, the companions residing in Suffah, (the courtyard of the mosque of the Prophet) wept until the tears flow drip down their cheeks. "When the Prophet () heard their cries, he cried with them and her tears made us cry. The Messenger of Allah said: « that cries for fear of Allah, the fire (of hell) will clear. .»
Ibn ' Umar read Surat Al-Mutaffifin and arriving in verse " ... the day where people will be standing before the Lord of the universe...". « » [Fraudsters, 6], he began to cry so much that he fell to the ground and could not recite the following verses. On the other hand, Muzahim Ibn Zafar reported: "Sufyan Al-Thawri ran us in the Maghrib prayer and when he read"c'est Toi (alone) that we worship and you (only one) we ask the help » [Al-Fatiha, 5],began to cry to the point of interrupting its recitation.» It therefore again Alhamduliltahagain. »
Are reported as Ibrahim Al - Ash'ath said: "one night, I heard Fudhayl Ibn ' Ayadh recite this verse of the Qur'an, on several occasions while he was crying: ' you will certainly experience in order to distinguish those who struggle (in the cause of Allah) and that endure, and we will experience you (showing) your works » [Muhammad, 31].» He repeated the words of Allah: « and we will be exhibiting your works», he said: «and you exposeras our works? If you feel our works, you us déshonoreras and exposeras our secrets. In fact, if you do, you us wilt and us châtieras. And he kept crying, sitting in the mosque until the sunrise.
Listen to this incredible example of a generation that has known the greatness of the Qur'an: when death came to Abdullah ibn Ibrahim, his daughter wept; told him then: "no crying not my little girl because I read the Koran entirely in this House four thousand times", so, what wonderful generation! And what good path to follow!
