The battle of Badr

It is also during this month that took place one of the most important battles of Islam, which the Koran refers to as the "day of judgment - Yaumul Furqan": it is of course of the battle of Badr, which was the 17th day of Ramadan of year 2 of the hegira. Allah has expressed today its support and its miraculous way helps believers: A handful of 313 Muslims has routed an army three times larger and much better equipped it.

Quickly back on the story of this historic battle: it all starts when the Prophet Muhammad (Salla Allahu Alaihi wa Sallam) learns that Abu Omar, one of the meccans - who became Muslim six years later, is back from Syria with a loaded goods and goods trailer.

Prophet Muhammad (Salla Allahu Alaihi wa Sallam) decides to catch it with a double objective: on one side, it is a measure of reprisals against the meccans who had been on the richness of the "Mouhadjirounes" (Muslims who was forced to emigrate to Medina); on the other hand, it is to impair economic power, and therefore the military power of the meccans which posed an ongoing risk on Muslims.

Prophet Muhammad () left Medina with a group of slightly more than three hundred companions (radhia Allahu anhoum). Abu Sufyan in turn learns the departure of Muslims: it quickly sends an emissary to Makkah to warn the Qouraichites, then branches off to the side and managed to escape. But, in the meantime, the meccan army has already left Makkah... She thinks a moment to return, but Abu Djahal, the enemy of Allah and his Messenger (), under the influence of drunkenness of pride and power will encourage them to continue until Badr (village located just 100 kilometers from Medina) where, he said, "they will be a feast and will sink afloat wine": their determination will then give rise to the fear among all Arabs who will never again dare to imagine to go to them and to their property... But what he does not know, is that in reality, death is trying to call him.

The meccans continue to Medina. Prophet Muhammad (), from his side, when he learned of the approach of the meccans, confers with his own to determine the course of action; indeed, at no time, he only had prepared for facing a strong fully equipped army: them, which are only 313, with all and for all a few horses, about 70 camels and a few swords... All Muslims will yet accept the battle and the face to face thus held the 17th Ramadan.

Subsequently, you certainly know: this is a devastating victory for the Muslims... 14 of the largest pagan leaders of Makkah will be killed, among which the Pharaoh of this Ummah, Abu Djahal. 70 enemies will also be taken prisoner.

The positive effects of this historic victory will be enormous, and not be restricted to the single time of Revelation. Truth be told, every Muslim must recognition towards Allah for it: indeed, it has been a significant factor for the presence of Iman and Islam on this earth so far, as can be understood by meditating on the terms of the invocation had sent to Allah the Prophet Muhammad () the night before the battle: "O Allaah! Performs for me and give me what you promised me. O Allah if you do destroy this group of Muslims, you'll be more loved on Earth"(Tirmidhi-Hassan Sahîh Gharîb) "

The fact that this memorable victory took place precisely during Ramadan is an additional indication of the value and the importance of this month.
